ABOUT US

The Energy Federation of New Zealand Inc. (EFNZ) was formed in 1997 following the merger of the Energy Foundation of New Zealand and the New Zealand branch of the World Energy Council.

EFNZ is a membership based, professional, not-for-profit, and independent energy industry association in New Zealand. It promotes and supports the sustainable development and use of energy resources both in New Zealand and globally.

EFNZ is the New Zealand Member Committee of the World Energy Council (WEC) based in London. It shares the vision and supports the goal and work programme of the WEC. The WEC is a global, multi-energy organization with significant support from private companies, public utilities, governments, academia, and prominent individuals in close to 100 countries, including all of the major energy production and consumption markets. EFNZ members have access to password protected parts of the WEC website www.worldenergy.org.

Aims:

  • To promote the sustainable use of energy for economic growth in New Zealand.
  • To produce and implement a strategic plan that will assist industry participants to realise commercial opportunities based on the wide range of energy resources.
  • To promote coordination and collaboration within the Energy Industry.
  • To organise an ongoing programme of activities for its members.
  • To undertake and coordinate collaborative studies, and promote energy research.
  • To establish a strong value proposition for membership.
  • To provide sound technical information and represent consensus industry views to government.
  • To promote widespread recognition of EFNZ within the energy sector and government.
  • To participate in WEC activities and support its programme.
  • To disseminate and add value to WEC information.
  • To act with independence and integrity.

Objectives:

  • EFNZ aims to promote the sustainable development and use of energy resources, both in New Zealand and globally, by the following means:
  • Sharing energy related information;
  • Communicating and representing energy industry views;
  • Providing a forum for discussions and networking on energy matters;
  • Preparing and disseminating clear, readable reports;
  • Co-ordinating and assisting other organisations in the energy field;
  • Organising seminars and conferences on energy issues

Provision of services:

A range of services is provided to members of the EFNZ. These include:
  • Regular newsletters and faxed or emailed circulation of news items;
  • Seminars, conferences, workshops;
  • Energy studies;
  • Distribution of World Energy Council and other energy-related international material;
  • Collective research commissions;
  • Participation in international studies and working groups;
  • Representation of energy industry views;
  • Member access to the Global Energy Information System at www.worldenergy.org.
